Laine's Alcaidesa Newsletter - 07.08.2007
I can hardly believe how quickly the time is going since setting up home in Spain. The months seem to vanish or just mingle together.
Well, what have I heard about new things happening in the area.
Firstly from the Alcaidesa Office, I have taken the following:-
3rd August
THE PORT AUTHORITIES AUTHORIZES THE NEW MARINE
The Algeciras Port Authority has authorized the construction of a new Marina in La Linea de la Concepcion, at the Poniente area.
(The Poniente area is the stretch of coast along side Gibraltar Harbour).
The Port and the different recreational facilities will be built by Alcaidesa Servicios, S.A. and will have moorings for approximately 777 Boats.
Probably, building will start before the end of the year, therefore the first phase could be finished next year or beginning of 2009. It will be designed by the same designers that constructed the dock at Valencia, where The American Cup has been celebrated.
This is good new as it is only a 15 minute drive from Alcaidesa
MORE VISITORS
I also read about more People actually visiting the area of La Linea.
This comes from the Costa del Sol News:-
Each year more and more people are visiting the tourist information office in La Linea. During the first half of this year the office received 18,866 people, that compares with 12,748 in the entire 12 months of 2005 and just 6,138 in 2003.
NEWS FOR GOLFERS
The XXXI Andalucian Professionals Individual Championship is to be held at the Alcaidesa Links Golf Course.
A group of Alcaidesa companies has recently reached agreement with the Andalucian Association of Golf Professionals to host the 31st Andalucian Professionals Individual Championship at the Alcaidesa Golf Resort. This is to take place from the 23rd October to the 27th October. This is the week before the Volvo Masters so there will be plenty going on for Golfers around this time. These are just a few of the players that have competed in this event in previous years, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Jose Maria Olazabal and Jose Maria Canizares.
This competition will also coincide with the inauguration of the new Valley Golf Course and will have an official practice round, 54 holes of stroke-play on three consecutive days.
The Pro-Am on the 27th will be involving national and international member of the press and wholesalers specialising in the golfing industry.
The new Club House and the new Course, designed by Dave Thomas will be officially inaugurated on the 27th with a magnificent party following the pro-am and prize-giving.
I personally think this is all good news and maybe now people looking in the area will start to realise we have a real gem in Alcaidesa.
Just a couple of light hearted things to finish on: -
We took our grandchildren to Bahia Water Park, Algeciras (15 minutes from Alcaidesa). I really can recommend this as a day out for any of you bringing the children with you. There was plenty to do once you where in the park and for the day I did not consider it to be over expensive.

Even the big kids have fun.

However, I am still trying to work out the full meaning of some of the rules; maybe you could be better at this then me!
Do not jump head first into the swimming pool.
(Tried this several time and when I jump my feet always leave the ground first!)
Pregnant women are not allowed in our fairground attractions
(For the live of me I could not find a fair in the water park!)
You could be sent off for bad behaviour
(Do you get two yellow and then the red?)
The use of swimming costume is indispensable
(You dont have any worry on that score!!!!!)
Last but not least I am meeting some really interesting company on my travels, like
Mr Batty at the Birdie Club.

Cheers,
Elaine
